Creating a sustainable future for people, society and the planet is one of the greatest challenges of our time. Elfa works on the basis of clear goals and with transparency in the follow-up. The ambition is to contribute to positive development - not just because it is possible, but because it is necessary.

Environmental certificates

Elfa’s work and results in environmental sustainability, social responsibility and corporate governance are confirmed by ISO 14001:2015 certificates, codes of conduct and third-party audits of our performance in these areas.

External assessments of Elfa’s sustainability work

Elfa is regularly audited by independent and internationally recognised organisations. In EcoVadis, Elfa ranks among the top 13 percent of companies globally and has been awarded a silver medal. The assessment covers the environment, working conditions, human rights, ethics and sustainable sourcing.

Elfa also reports environmental and climate data to CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project), a global standard for climate reporting.

Elfa constantly develops new environmental product declarations (EPDs) for its products. These can be downloaded from the EPD Hub and all climate data is also available via PRODIKT.

Elfa’s products are registered in environmental databases such as Sunda Hus, Byggvarubedömningen and the Nordic Ecolabelling House Product Portal.

Sustainability targets for 2030

Elfa has clear sustainability goals up to 2030, followed up by annual KPIs. The work covers the entire value chain and focuses on People, Society and the Planet.

We strive for a safe and engaging working environment, ethical business relationships and reduced climate impact. The goals include a high level of sustainability at suppliers, continuous training in business ethics and significantly reduced emissions. By 2030, our operations will be fossil-free and based on renewable energy.

By measuring emissions per produced cubic metre of storage, we ensure efficient and comparable climate performance - regardless of the size of the project.

UN Global Compact and Global Goals

Since 2018, Elfa has been a member of the UN Global Compact, an international initiative that brings together companies around the world to promote responsible business. The ten principles within human rights, working conditions, the environment and anti-corruption are now well integrated in the Group’s strategy, policies and governance. Through this work, Elfa also contributes to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, with particular focus on:

  • Objective 8: Decent working conditions and economic growth
  • Objective 12: Sustainable consumption and production
  • Objective 13: Combating climate change
  • Goal 16: Peaceful and inclusive communities

Sustainable supply chains

Elfa places high demands on suppliers of direct materials to ensure responsible sourcing. All suppliers are covered by Elfa’s Code of Conduct and are evaluated through regular ESG assessments, risk analyses and audits. In this way, risks in the supply chain can be identified and managed proactively, contributing to long-term sustainable collaborations. Responsible handling of chemicals

Chemicals are used in materials and production, which places high demands on safe handling. Elfa works with clear procedures and strict control to minimise risks to health and the environment.

All chemicals comply with current legislation, including REACH, and potentially harmful substances are continuously replaced with safer alternatives. Compliance is ensured through regular testing, product analysis and supplier declarations. Elfa also complies with Proposition 65, which provides extra security in international projects.

Regulatory & Compliance

Sustainability requirements in the EU and Sweden are constantly changing. Elfa works in a structured manner to ensure full compliance with applicable legislation throughout the company.

Through systematic legal monitoring at EU and national level, regulatory changes are identified and implemented on an ongoing basis, supported by external legal expertise for correct interpretation and implementation.
