Three ways to help children keep the hallway tidy:

  1. Everything in its place
    Give each child a special place for their shoes, jackets and small items. Place hooks, shelves and baskets within reach of the children. Just like in preschool and school. 

  2. How do the children feel about the storage?
    Ask the children how they want their things and let them help to put everything in place. If they have had the opportunity to influence, they feel more responsible for keeping things tidy. 

  3. Keep it simple
    Baskets and shelves must be accessible without standing on your toes. Mark what goes where, or let the children make their own name tags. It makes organising easier and more fun.

Tips for a child-friendly hallway

  • Give everything a special place: jackets, mittens, the bike helmet, the school bag and the training gear.
  • Place the items so that the children can reach them. Organise like in kindergarten or school.
  • Adjust the storage so that it follows the growth of the children.
  • Use both walls and doors to make room for everything you need.
  • Involve the whole family, so that everyone feels a shared responsibility.
  • Make room for guests and friends, with many hooks at different heights.
